Our first foray into Armagnac, and what a way to start! Distilled in 2001 at Domaine d’Esperance, this beauty is rich and complex, with aromas of dried figs, prunes, and a touch of baking spices. There’s a hint of toasted oak and a whisper of floral honey, making it a perfect bridge between rum and brandy. Visiting the estate was a dream, and this Armagnac is a testament to their artistry.
The Enmore sugar estate was established by Edward Henry Porter in the early 19th century. The distillery was once the home of the famed wooden stills, closed in 1994 before the equipment was moved to DDL's Diamond distillery where it sits today.
Enmore no. 9 was produced at Versailles Single Wooden Pot Still (REV). This expression has spent 29 years in an ex-rum cask and was bottled in 2023 at 45.8% ABV. There are just 157 bottles in this batch.
Uitvlugt (pronounced “eye-flut”) is a village in Guyana, based on the west bank of the Demerara River. The Dutch-owned Uitvlugt Distillery was established around 1750, housing double wooden pot stills which produced a characteristically heavy rum. In 1975 the government began consolidating rum production, and this sadly saw the closure of Uitvlugt in 2000.
Uitvlugt no 6 was produced at Double Wooden Pot Still. This expression has spent 2 years in tropics and in an ex-bourbon barrel and 21 years in an ex-cognac cask. It was bottled in 2022 at 53.4% ABV. There are just 262 bottles in this batch.
